ACCREDITATION LIGHT VEHICLE INSPECTION TECHNICIAN

BECOME A QUALIFIED LEVEL 3 LVI TECHNICIAN

The Accreditation Light Vehicle Inspection Technician Certificate is recognised by the DVSA. This course will improve your competence at vehicle inspection for engine and electrical diagnostics. You will focus on all vehicle systems including:

Once you’ve completed the Level 3 LVI course, you’ll have your Light Vehicle Inspection Technician Accreditation, which is the first step towards achieving your MOT Tester Licence. (Classes 4&7)

Our Level 3 LVI course gives you all you need to gain the necessary skills and qualifications to take your MOT Tester Licence.
COMPONENT 1:
STEERING, SUSPENSION, WHEELS & TYRES
  • Inspect a variety of suspension systems including – McPherson strut, wishbone, solid axle

  • Inspect vehicle suspension spring(s)

  • Inspect suspension dampers / shock absorbers

  • Identify a range of tyres including run flat/DOR/radial/cross-ply

  • Wheel alignment principles including the Ackerman principles

COMPONENT 2:
VEHICLE ELECTRICS
  • Check all vehicle lighting – front / rear / side – including headlamps (halogen / xenon technology)

  • Check vehicle occupant safety systems (including SRS) meet vehicle manufacturer settings

  • Accurately diagnose a vehicle electrical fault

  • Diagnose electrical circuit faults using at least two methods of electrical fault finding to locate an open circuit / high

  • resistance fault / short circuit

COMPONENT 3:
EMISSION SYSTEMS
  • Accurately analyse emission testing data from vehicles with petrol engines

  • Carryout the necessary calibration of emission test equipment

  • Carry out an emissions test on a petrol engine vehicle

  • Analyse emission testing data from vehicles with a diesel engine

  • ​Vehicle emission systems, including components i.e. oxygen sensor

COMPONENT 4:
VEHICLE APPRAISAL
  • Full vehicle check over

  • Checking for any faults

  • Inspect under vehicle including dampers/shock absorbers

  • Full interior check

  • Full exterior check

  • Full under bonnet check

  • ​Check vehicle body and structure

COMPONENT 5:
BRAKING SYSTEMS
  • The component functions within a vehicle electronically controlled braking system (electric handbrakes / ABS / ESP / TRC)

  • Use inspection documentation to accurately record vehicle faults

  • Carry out an inspection of a vehicle’s body structure and determine its road worthiness

  • Identify braking components which require replacement

  • Work out brake performance percentages

  • ​Check vehicle braking system for faults
